Job Description:

Fluor has an immediate opening for a 3rd shift Utility Plant Operator at the IRG campus in Rochester. Work schedule is 8 days on / 6 days off, 10 p.m. - 8 a.m. Full benefits after 90 days, PTO and 401k upon hire.

SUMMARY: Operates, inspects, and performs preventive maintenance and repairs to the Central Utility Plant, ensuring that all work is completed within industrial standards and codes, and Fluor’s policies.

Job Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure all safety practices and standards are followed.

  • Perform Operator duties for the Central Utility Plant. Equipment operated includes but is not limited to boilers, chillers and air compressors.

  • Must have ability to perform inspections and make necessary adjustments to conform to job specifications and log results.

  • Must be able to discern colors for colorimetric testing of water samples and/or reading of color-coded plan instrumentation.

  • Examine machinery or mechanical equipment; identify reasons for malfunction and complete repairs and/or maintenance.

  • Install, repair, and replace piping and fittings for oil, natural gas, water, steam, compressed air, heating and plumbing lines, and systems for equipment such as steam turbines, air compressors, pumps, and boilers.

  • Install new equipment and systems and repair and maintain current equipment and systems as needed.

  • Prepare boilers and related equipment for state and insurance inspections.

  • Repair and overhaul pumps and heat exchangers; remove and replace coils, and replace valves and associated equipment on steam turbines, steam distribution systems, boilers, and other related systems and equipment.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 1 year experience as Utility Plant Operator required

  • Education: 2-year BUM degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required

  • License Preferred: MN State Engineer’s License First Class “B”

  • Alternatively, must be able to obtain a Provisional Operating Engineer License by possessing a MN State Engineer’s License Second Class “A or B”, and must obtain a State Engineer’s License First Class “B” within 24 months of date of hire

  • Experience required in monitoring Automated Process Control System (HMI / SCADA)

  • Must have the ability to complete heavy physical labor (pushing, pulling, lifting objects up to 40 lbs.)

  • Must have ability when needed to physically enter boiler steam and water drums, boiler fireboxes and exhaust stacks, cooling towers, and other tight spaces

  • Must be able to work safely in elevated locations up to 30 feet

  • Must possess the ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade
